floating- inheritance. A calamity
My big idea is to capture the floating quality without borders of people across cultures, when their free thoughts are restricted, the characters live in frames of social norms, old rules, and unable to see the reality.
During Japan’s rule in Taiwan, the costumes showcased three distinct styles: Western dresses and suits, Japanese kimonos, and Qing Dynasty-era changshan and cheongsam from China. The affluent favored Western attire, particularly dresses and suits, symbolizing intellect, as seen with Oswald, who studied in Paris. Those associated with the Japanese government, like the Alvings, wore kimonos. Qing-style garments were worn by Qing Dynasty supporters or the less affluent, exemplified by Mr. Engstrand.
